Recursive self-improvement — Recursive self-improvement is an AI system improving its own abilities, then using those improved abilities to improve itself further. It is the engine behind the idea of an intelligence explosion. AI already helps with parts of AI research, such as writing code. Whether full self-improvement is possible remains an open question.
