Confabulation — Confabulation is another word for AI hallucination, borrowed from psychology, where it describes filling memory gaps with invented details without intent to deceive. Some researchers prefer it because it better describes what models do. The model is not lying; it is producing plausible content without knowing it is wrong. Both terms describe the same problem.
