Alignment — Alignment is the work of making AI systems pursue the goals and values their designers and society intend. An aligned system is helpful, honest, and avoids harm, even in situations its designers did not foresee. Alignment becomes harder as systems grow more capable. It is widely seen as one of the central challenges of advanced AI.
