Responsible scaling policy — A responsible scaling policy is a commitment by an AI developer to match safety measures to the capability of its models. As models reach higher capability levels, stronger protections must be in place before training or release continues. Anthropic introduced the first such policy in 2023, and others have adopted similar frameworks. It ties progress to proven safety.
