Reranking — Reranking is a second step in search that reorders retrieved results by how relevant they truly are to the question. A first search finds many candidates quickly, and a reranking model sorts them more carefully. It improves the quality of what gets passed to a language model. It is common in retrieval-augmented generation systems.
